December 19, 2007 | On December 6, House Resolution 372 was introduced into the United States House of Representatives "recognizing the importance of Christmas and the Christian faith". While such a resolution does not technically appear to violate the "separation of church and state", it is instructive to note the content of the resolution as passed, the content as introduced and not passed and the overwhelming majority (372-9) who voted to pass this seeming profession of faith.
Note that the originally introduced resolution included the following: Whereas Christians identify themselves as those who believe in the salvation from sin offered to them through the sacrifice of their savior, Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and who, out of gratitude for the gift of salvation, commit themselves to living their lives in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible; The resolution that was passed did not include the above. To see the full content of the proposed resolution and the final resolution that passed, click the link below and from the top of the new page click "See Full Bill Text". All information on the resolution. It is probable, if you are an American reading this, that your represetative voted for the resolution.
